The Government of Japan (GOJ) has resumed cross–border business travel with the introduction of special frameworks that came into effect in June.
These special frameworks have been established and operate separately from general procedures for cross-border travelers. The special frameworks cover entry into and exit from Japan for cross-border business travelers and others.
While maintaining the current border control measures (see ※below), the GOJ has tentatively implemented a special framework to facilitate cross-border business travelers and others on the condition of adopting additional quarantine measures such as obtaining a certificate of pre-entry test result, retaining location data after entering Japan etc.
※ COVID-19 testing upon arrival, and for a period of 14 days:
・ refraining from using public transportation; and
・ staying at home or a place designated by the Chief of the Quarantine Station
From October 1st, those holding a residence status of “student”, “dependent” and others in addition to cross-border business travelers of all countries and regions have been permitted to enter Japan under the condition that the person is hosted by a company or entity which can ensure observation of quarantine measures.
GOJ explains about two available frameworks known as Business track and Residence track.
Business track is intended mainly for short-term business travelers. Residence track is intended mainly for long term residents.
While the frameworks appear quite complex and bureaucratic, details are explained further on the government website, along with information on applicable countries and regions: https://www.mofa.go.jp/ca/cp/page22e_000925.html
It may feel overwhelming when making necessary preparations to obtain a visa and work through these frameworks, particularly when going through additional strict quarantined measures. However, we can help you through the process, assisting you in obtaining a certificate of eligibility required to secure your visa.
