Any cases you can apply for permanent resident status after shorter period of residency?

When applicants want to apply for the permanent resident status, all the requirements are supposed to be met.

As for the period of residency in Japan, which is one of the requirements, applicants must reside in Japan for 10years or more, plus they must work with a working visa for more than 5years during this resident period.

But wait! Good news!

There are some exceptions in which you can apply for permanent resident status even with a shorter period of residency.

For example, in case that the applicant married to a Japanese national, and the marriage has actually been continuing for 3 years or more, plus has been residing for more than 1 year in Japan, this case is applicable.

Also, the case that the applicant has been residing in Japan for more than 5 consecutive years while holding the resident status 'Long term resident’ is applicable.

In addition, the case that applicants reside in Japan with holding ‘Highly Skilled Foreign Professional’ status for more than 3 consecutive years (or for more than 1 year with having more than 80 in calculation of HSFP points), is applicable.
